Last Friday I had a bunch of errands to do and never got a workout in, although it felt like I had been running all day! Saturday and Sunday I was just feeling lazy and didn't do anything. Then Monday was a holiday and everyone was home, so it felt more like a weekend, again no workout. At 6:00 this morning I get a call from a friend saying her daycare provider texted in sick and asking if I could watch her 2 kids. So, yeah, pretty sure I'll get no workout today.
I hate getting thrown off schedule, it is so hard for me to get back on track. Sometimes even one day off gives me zero motivation to start again. Ugh.

Legs of mush...
It took a lot of mental peptalking to get myself on the elliptical today. At 29 minutes, with 1 minute left, my legs started to feel very shaky. As I finished up I was almost afraid to try and step off the machine, I wasn't sure my legs would hold me up anymore.
I had previously planned to do one set of lower body strength exercises (squats and lunges) afterward. I wasn't expecting to feel so depleted after the elliptical though and the idea of torturing my legs anymore made my whole body feel like jello. But I did some more peptalking, ignored my shaking body, and forced myself through 15 reps of 5 exercises. It wasn't painful, but every time I went down I was not at all convinced I'd make it back up.
I'm pretty sure I will not be able to make it upstairs to take my shower now. Or, do anything other than sit in this chair for the rest of the day for that matter. Oooh but hey, this chair's got wheels, I could wheel myself around the house!
So...so far this week I have done 30 mins elliptical plus upper body strength on Monday, 20 minutes elliptical on Tuesday, 30 mins elliptical plus 20 mins upper body strength on Wednesday, and 30 mins elliptical plus one very weak lower body strength workout on Thursday. I have also tracked my points for breakfast and lunch every day. Making great progress towards reaching my goals!

A long time...
It has been a super long time since I posted here. It has been a super long time since I felt like I should post here. *sigh* I did well in January, and then...not so much. February I got off my routine, then I got sick. March I swore I'd get back on track, but the next thing I knew it was April. April I swore I'd get back on track, but the next thing I knew it was May. And now here it is almost the end of May. I haven't been keeping track of my points, haven't been working out regularly, have given in to certain foods or certain amounts way too much. As a result I gained back all the weight I lost, plus some.
Ugh.
The past couple weeks I have been putting more effort into getting back into the swing of things. It hasn't been spectacular, but it's been somewhat of an effort at least. I know what helped back in January was that I made small goals and I knew that I would mess up and made it ok for me to do that. I expected that I'd slip and not meet every goal and I accepted that without feeling like a failure. I haven't had that same mind set since then and I really need to get back to it. Plus the smaller the goal the easier it is for me to reach it, and then I feel good about that and want to keep going. So...
This week my goal are:
Food - track breakfast and lunch points every day
Exercise - workout for a minimum of 20 minutes 4 days

Week 4 weigh-in
Well, it wasn't exactly what I expected or hoped for, there was some good, some not so good. I gained .8 lb, which is the not so good. But, my body fat went down 1.5%, so that is good. At least I hope it's good, it could mean I just gained somewhere else and the percentage just changed, not that I actually lost any fat. Ah well, not every week is going to be spectacular.
Yesterday I was super tired, probably from doing the elliptical twice on Friday. So I didn't work out, heck I didn't do much of anything. Then for dinner I was craving something totally awful and fattening, so I took the kids to Wendy's. It tasted really good, I totally enjoyed every last bite of my fries and bacon cheeseburger, and it got me out of cooking, and I really haven't eaten food like that in over a month...so I wasn't feeling guilty at all!
But isn't that the important thing when you are changing your lifestyle? To do good most of the time so that it is ok to occasionally splurge on something and not have to feel bad about it?

I Have A Love/Hate Relationship...
With my elliptical machine. Ok, really? It's mostly hate. It is hard to do. I feel like my lungs are going to burst out of my chest. It is uncomfortable. My legs are either in dire pain or my feet are going numb. Afterward I look like hell. My skin is super flushed, my hair is disheveled, depending on the temperature of my garage I may have sweat soaked into every inch of the clothing I am wearing.
So where is the love? Well, for some reason it is THE ONLY exercise that I can push myself to go harder/faster/longer and I actually keep doing it. If I were to go outside for a walk and try to move faster the second my legs started to burn or my breathing got too hard I would slow down. Whenever I do any sort of cardio workout dvd, I feel like there is no way I can go on. But I can with the elliptical. I also love that it kinda makes me feel like I am jogging, but without the jolting and destroying of my joints and the flopping of fat rolls. (Mostly I like the non-flopping of fat.) I also like that once I get back in the routine of using it, it is easy to see how quickly I progress by being able to move up the resistance or go longer.
I still hate it more than I love it.

3 Weeks Down
I have completed 3 weeks of doing Weight Watchers Online. Well, almost, Saturday is my weigh-in day and my weekly points reset, but officially I started on a Monday, so I still have a day to go and....anyway, now I'm just babbling pointlessly!
My first week, as expected I lost nothing. Not that I did badly, I just never seem to lose the first week (or more.)
My second week I wasn't sure, I had been sick early in the week and didn't feel like I did as well as I could have. And yet I went from 276.8 to 275 lbs. (HA! I first mis-typed that as 175 lbs, WOW, that was an awesome week!!)
My third week I was sure I would lose nothing again. I had been really tired all week, missed several workouts, and ate too much sugar. And yet...I went from 275 lbs to 273 lbs!!!
I must say I am very surprised, but very happy with my results thus far. My goal was to ease back into things for the entire month of January, and I have been doing that. Making a few diet changes, adding more fruits and veggies, doing short workouts daily (er, well, daily was the plan and I had been doing ok until last week.) I think I shall stick with what I've been doing for at least another week before I make any real changes to my routine.
If this keeps up I should reach my first 5% weight loss goal by the first week of March, yay!

That time of year...
The time when everyone makes the resolution to lose weight. The same resolution I have made myself every year for over half my life.
I knowingly and really not caring at all totally slacked off the past couple months. I ate horribly, didn't do one lick of exercise, was just apathetic about the whole thing. And as a result I gained back 10 lbs and just kinda feel like crap.
So as cliche and pointless as it is to make the resolution to lose weight, I am not going to do it. Wait, what? Yes, that's right. I am not going to resolve to lose weight. Clearly I fail every time I do that, so why bother anymore.
However...I am tired of looking and feeling the way that I currently do so I am (again) renewing my efforts to be a healthier person. I joined Weight Watcher's Online (again) to try out their new Points Plus program. I decided to really try and put some effort into it for the 3 months that I signed up. I am also very slowly starting to workout again, just doing some mini-workouts to get myself back into the habit.
I tend to rush into things and end up totally sabotaging myself. This time, I'm taking it slow, even if that means no results for a while. And I'm accepting my sabotage and not giving up because of it. I recorded almost all of my food this week. Even the bad stuff. Even when I was clearly going to go way over points. I did it anyway. Decided it doesn't matter if I totally suck at this, I'm going to keep going anyway and hopefully one day I won't suck so much.
Yeah, I'm sure I've thought all of those things at one time or another and it hasn't worked out. But someday it's going to, it has to, I don't feel like I was destined to live in this over-inflated body for my entire life. Maybe I'll end up being a totally rocking 60 yr old on the 100th season of Biggest Loser, but someday it has to work.
