It's over!

I meant to post yesterday, but things happen...

So the cleanse is officially over!!  The last 3 days were much as before, although the last day I had a lot of stomach issues.  I don't know if it has something to do with the cleanse, something to do with lovely Aunt Flo's visit, or something else completely.

Yesterday was my first day of being able to have other food, I had decided to introduce grains.  And seeing as how I missed peanut butter more than any other food, I made myself a shake and a piece of whole wheat toast with a bit of peanut butter for breakfast.  SO good!!!

I was planning on mostly eating the way I had been for the rest of the day but my husband called to ask if I wanted to go to lunch with him since I could eat anything I wanted finally.  Since I'd used up every ounce of willpower I've ever had the past 3 weeks I agreed.  We went to Chipotle, my favorite place!  I had a bowl that had brown rice, black beans, chicken, corn salsa, a tiny bit of cheese, and lettuce.  I only ate half of it though, couldn't really get down more than that.  Plus I had some chips and guacamole.  Decided that would be the "cheat" part of the meal.  About an hour after I started having some stomach cramps that lasted about three hours.  Problem is that is the same kind of stomach stuff I already had going on so I don't know if it was from the food or if I would have had that no matter what I ate.

I wasn't hungry around the time I usually eat snack, then I ended up on an hour long errand having to pick up my middle schooler and drive his friend to his mom's work.  Ended up witnessing a car accident that happened right in front of me, so that made the whole errand even longer.  When I got home it was only an hour or so before dinner, and I wasn't even really hungry still.  BUT...I decided that the Thin Mints in my freezer had been calling my name for long enough, so I ate two of them.  Again, SO good!!!

Dinner was salmon and veggies.  Clint made some peanut butter chocolate chip cookies after he ate, and I had two of them.

So overall I didn't completely stick to my plan, but I don't think I did too shabby.  I didn't really feel guilty or anything indulging in a few things that I hadn't gotten to have in so long.  Today I am going to stick to my meal plan, no treats or cheats.  I know that now that I have gone for 3 weeks without eating crap food that I will be ok going for a few days or a week.  I can still have the things I like, but in moderation and occasionally instead of daily.

Now if I could just get my stomach to stop aching and my uterus to get out of the vice grip that has been on it for two days (sorry, probably a bit tmi, but seriously OMG, having HORRID cramps!)

Oh, before I forget...my ending weight was 277.0...so a total weight loss of 15.6 lbs!!

Only 3 days to go!

So the rest of this week has gone ok.  I found myself thinking about cookies a lot and being hungry not long after a meal that made me full.  I originally blamed in on the cleanse, but then I realized that good 'ol Aunt Flo is due at the end of this week...so duh!  Normally I have tons of sugar/chocolate cravings at this time of the month and I always have a few days before it starts where it feels like I am never full no matter how much I eat.  Since all of this happened to a much lesser degree than normal it took me a while to even make the connection.  I'm hoping her arrival doesn't interfere too much with my final weigh-in at the end of the cleanse.  Regardless I have already surpassed my goal for the cleanse and I plan to keep going, so I am happy no matter what that last weigh-in says!

Loooooong time, no see...

So...more than a year and a half since I posted here.  I can't say what happened at the end of 2011, I do know that basically all of 2012 sucked.  Whether it be for my own health reasons, or my husbands job and moving halfway across the country...it just sucked.  I have not been in a mind set to focus on weight loss at all, and of course I gained back a ton of what I had lost due to stress and anxiety.

Here we are in 2013 though.  I am determined to get past the negative of the past year and move forward.  Who knows what this year will bring, but I am going to try to make sure at least some of the crap from last year doesn't happen again!

To kick start the healing that my body and spirit desperately need I decided to join my chiropractor's office and do the Standard Process 21 day Purification Cleanse.  I wasn't sure if I should, mostly I wasn't at all convinced that I COULD.  But I knew that over the past year my body has been telling me that it has had enough.  I had a kidney stone, I had gall stones, I had long term stomach/digestion issues that I won't further explain.  I was tired and my brain just got foggier and foggier.  So I spent $200 and ordered the kit, figuring at the very least knowing I spent so much money on it might be an incentive to try a bit harder.

So I picked the date of Tuesday, January 8th to start.  Figured I'd take a day after my kids and husband went back to school and work to make plans, shop, and mostly indulge in anything else I felt that I HAD to have before I wasn't allowed to eat much more than vegetables for three weeks.  Then I watched the premier of The Biggest Loser and decided to stop waiting and start the cleanse on Monday, January 7th.

I weighed myself on the first day.  It was not a happy sight.  I had been hanging around 288 for several months, but that first day the scale read 292.6.  I had pretty much not cared a whole lot what I ate over the holidays and it showed.  I've been at 292 before, it is the highest weight that I've had (I may have gone a bit higher while pregnant, but I can't remember.)  I hate 292.  I would hate 293 worse, but gladly I've never seen that number.

The first day was tough.  I felt pretty low energy.  I was peeing a TON, seriously.  Sometimes I'd run to the bathroom with my bladder feeling like it would burst...and do it again 10 minutes later.  I was also freezing.  I had a low grade headache. Just felt off.  I was not thrilled with my food choices, at all.  I was really wondering why on earth I ever thought I could do this.

Day 2 was not any better.  I was freezing, my head ached, I was exhausted.  Food was a bit better to get down, but I really just felt crappy.

Day 3 I woke up really, really missing my morning coffee.  I had a bit more energy throughout the day but was still run down feeling.  Wasn't quite chilled to the bone like the previous two days either.

Day 4 and 5 were ok.  I was suprised at how it wasn't too hard to resist the temptations of all the forbidden food around me.  I was really missing all the stuff I couldn't have, but didn't give in.

Day 6 and 7...the weekend.  All my family home, everyone surrounding me eating stuff I couldn't have.  I was pretty miserable.  I knew that I only wanted the food though, I didn't need it.  Still, it was quite a depressing couple of days.  Started to get sick of vegetables, didn't eat a snack in the afternoon because I would rather starve than eat a damn vegetable.

I had been weighing myself nearly every day, and was very happy with what I saw.  After completing one full week on the cleanse I weighed 282.4, just over 10 lbs in one week!!  I know most of that is just inflammation and water retention, but with eating such drastically fewer calories I know some is fat loss too!

I thought the new week starting would help, but Day 8 was the worst day I'd have (so far.)  I was sick of the taste of the two shakes I had to drink every day.  I was totally annoyed with vegetables, I really never wanted to see another one ever again.  I was hungry, but nothing sounded good.  I was cooking some chicken for my family's dinner and it looked SO good.  I gave in and ate a bite.  BEST tasting chicken ever!  (And it wasn't even really all that spectacular, but it was a new taste!)  I felt bad for "cheating", but at least it was chicken and not a cookie or something.

Day 9 and 10 were also struggles with desires to eat other food.  Still I had the knowledge that I only wanted those food, I really didn't need them.

Day 11 was awesome...I could add chicken and fish to my diet!  Had my first chicken breast at lunch time, I don't think I've ever eaten anything so fast, it was SO good to eat something other than vegetables.  (For the record, I was having fruit too, but I would mix it with my shakes, so I was only drinking fruits, not "eating" them.)

Day 12 I was feeling a bit more energy but nothing major, still waiting for all the energy people claim to have while doing cleanses like this.  Had some salmon for lunch today that tasted SO amazing!

Day 13 and 14 back to the weekend.  Saturday wasn't so bad, Sunday I was again feeling kinda down that I couldn't eat anything I wanted, nothing really sounded appetizing.  Sunday I felt like I had a burst of energy, definitely more than what I'd had so far.

After completing 2 full weeks of the cleanse I weigh 279.0 lbs....13.6 lbs gone!!  279.0 was actually my goal, I wanted to get below 280, so I made my goal 279 so I'd be one full lb away from the 280's.  So glad to be this far away from 292, I will NEVER see that number again!!!

Day 15 back to the week, but everyone had the day off so it was like another weekend day, blah.  Energy from the day before has worn off, mostly feeling bored and tired all day.

And that brings us to today, day 16.  So far so good today, no great feelings of energy, but I am not feeling really tired either.

I realize this post has been epically long, but I wanted to recap the cleanse so far.  I have definitely felt a shift in my thoughts about food.  Having lost so much weight I feel like I can actually do it now. I feel like I can alter the way I eat, even being around my family eating other foods.  I might not lose 10 or 3.5 lbs in a week...but I am sure I can continue to lose.  I never thought I could do it before, heck I never really could before.  I think a lot of that was all in my head, my mind and feelings about myself, feeling like I was a huge failure at everything was holding me back.  I know my body needed a jump start, and that is exactly what I have gotten.  I will continue from here on out because now I know I CAN!

Off schedule...

Last Friday I had a bunch of errands to do and never got a workout in, although it felt like I had been running all day!  Saturday and Sunday I was just feeling lazy and didn't do anything.  Then Monday was a holiday and everyone was home, so it felt more like a weekend, again no workout.  At 6:00 this morning I get a call from a friend saying her daycare provider texted in sick and asking if I could watch her 2 kids.  So, yeah, pretty sure I'll get no workout today.

I hate getting thrown off schedule, it is so hard for me to get back on track.  Sometimes even one day off gives me zero motivation to start again.  Ugh.

Legs of mush...

It took a lot of mental peptalking to get myself on the elliptical today.  At 29 minutes, with 1 minute left, my legs started to feel very shaky.  As I finished up I was almost afraid to try and step off the machine, I wasn't sure my legs would hold me up anymore.

I had previously planned to do one set of lower body strength exercises (squats and lunges) afterward.  I wasn't expecting to feel so depleted after the elliptical though and the idea of torturing my legs anymore made my whole body feel like jello.  But I did some more peptalking, ignored my shaking body, and forced myself through 15 reps of 5 exercises.  It wasn't painful, but every time I went down I was not at all convinced I'd make it back up.

I'm pretty sure I will not be able to make it upstairs to take my shower now.  Or, do anything other than sit in this chair for the rest of the day for that matter.  Oooh but hey, this chair's got wheels, I could wheel myself around the house!

So...so far this week I have done 30 mins elliptical plus upper body strength on Monday, 20 minutes elliptical on Tuesday, 30 mins elliptical plus 20 mins upper body strength on Wednesday, and 30 mins elliptical plus one very weak lower body strength workout on Thursday.  I have also tracked my points for breakfast and lunch every day.  Making great progress towards reaching my goals!

A long time...

It has been a super long time since I posted here.  It has been a super long time since I felt like I should post here.  *sigh*  I did well in January, and then...not so much.  February I got off my routine, then I got sick.  March I swore I'd get back on track, but the next thing I knew it was April.  April I swore I'd get back on track, but the next thing I knew it was May.  And now here it is almost the end of May.  I haven't been keeping track of my points, haven't been working out regularly, have given in to certain foods or certain amounts way too much.  As a result I gained back all the weight I lost, plus some.

Ugh.

The past couple weeks I have been putting more effort into getting back into the swing of things.  It hasn't been spectacular, but it's been somewhat of an effort at least.  I know what helped back in January was that I made small goals and I knew that I would mess up and made it ok for me to do that.  I expected that I'd slip and not meet every goal and I accepted that without feeling like a failure.  I haven't had that same mind set since then and I really need to get back to it.  Plus the smaller the goal the easier it is for me to reach it, and then I feel good about that and want to keep going.  So...

This week my goal are:
Food - track breakfast and lunch points every day
Exercise - workout for a minimum of 20 minutes 4 days

Week 4 weigh-in

Well, it wasn't exactly what I expected or hoped for, there was some good, some not so good.  I gained .8 lb, which is the not so good.  But, my body fat went down 1.5%, so that is good.  At least I hope it's good, it could mean I just gained somewhere else and the percentage just changed, not that I actually lost any fat.  Ah well, not every week is going to be spectacular.

Yesterday I was super tired, probably from doing the elliptical twice on Friday.  So I didn't work out, heck I didn't do much of anything.  Then for dinner I was craving something totally awful and fattening, so I took the kids to Wendy's.  It tasted really good, I totally enjoyed every last bite of my fries and bacon cheeseburger, and it got me out of cooking, and I really haven't eaten food like that in over a month...so I wasn't feeling guilty at all!

But isn't that the important thing when you are changing your lifestyle?  To do good most of the time so that it is ok to occasionally splurge on something and not have to feel bad about it?
